    Shedding Light in Darkness

From Zero Believers to Fifty in Under a Decade

Not far from the Caspian Sea, there are five small villages hidden among the mountains where the message of Jesus had never been shared for 2000 years. But that changed in 2018 when a group of Jesus followers traveling through the region met a man from one of these villages on the road. His name was Abdul. These Jesus followers had been specifically praying that they might meet someone who would be a person of peace, someone they could safely talk to. So they began to share with Abdul, and they told him about the forgiveness and freedom that comes through Jesus.

Abdul was amazed to hear this. He began to open up and share about the deep guilt in his heart. He had long been troubled by his own sin, but had never found a way to erase his shame. What these men were telling Abdul was truly good news to him.

There on the side of the road in the mountains, Abdul put his faith in Jesus. But this was not enough for Abdul. He wanted his family to know too. So he brought the Jesus followers to his village and let them stay there with him. Abdul's family put their faith in Jesus, and then some of his neighbors, and then more. Today, there are about 50 believers in a place where less than 10 years ago, there were zero. The Prophet Isaiah once said, "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation."
